Life and register readings
SEYYİD AHMED NACİ EFENDİ was born in Varna in 1849/50 (AH 1266); the father's occupation was "Hatip". Work began in Varna in 1865/66, at about 16. The first annual entry, for 1865/66, places AHMED NACİ in Varna, the birthplace, as Muhasebe Kalemi mülazımı, where the entries run to 1871/72. AHMED NACİ then moved to Balchik (Balçık) from 1874 to 1878. Alongside, the lists for 1875/76 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Görevin sona ermesi. Next came a return to Varna from 1877 to 1878, then Edremit from 1879 to 1882. Alongside, the lists for 1880/81 give a second post, in a post with no place named as a tithe official (Aşar Memuru), with a rise to Aşar Memuru. The annual lists then follow AHMED NACİ to Bandırma from 1881 to 1883. Alongside, the lists for 1882 to 1889 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Aşar Müdürlüğü başkâtibi. Alongside, the lists for 1888/89 give a second post, in Erdek as Mal Muduru, with a rise to Mal Muduru. The lists give Infisal for 1872/73 and 1885/86; İstifa (resignation) for 1877/78 instead of a title.
Pay rose from 300 kuruş a month in 1867/68 to a peak of 600 in 1877/78, in Varna, when 63 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1888/89.
