Life and register readings
Mehmet Nuri Efendi was born in Dagistan in 1871/72 (AH 1288). Work began in 1904/05, at about 33. The first annual entry, for 1904/05, names Mehmet Nuri as Evkaf Nezareti Meclis-i İdare kalemi mülazımı, with no place. Alongside, the lists for 1906 to 1909 give a second post, in Preveza as Evkaf müdürü vekili. At the same time, from 1911, the lists also place Mehmet Nuri in Pristina (Priştine) as Evkaf Memuru. The farthest post, Preveza, lay about 2,300 km from Dagistan, and fewer than 3 per cent of the 5,339 officials with a known birthplace and place of service served as far from the birthplace.
The salary went from 150 kuruş a month in 1906/07 to 1,750 in 1910/11, the peak, as Evkaf Memuru, when 86 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, five years of salary come to 49,200 kuruş, 1.7 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1911.
