Life and register readings
Born in Bursa, Karabet Halis Efendi came from the Hristiyan community. Work began in 1885/86 (AH 1303), on a first salary of 500 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1885/86, names Karabet Halis as Hüdâvendigâr vilâyeti orman idaresi teftiş kitâbeti, with no place. The lists have no entry for 1886 to 1888. Next came Konya, Edirne and Adana from 1888 to 1898. For 1891 to 1896 the lists have no entry. At the same time, from 1897 to 1902, the lists also place Karabet Halis in Ankara as Ankara vilâyeti orman idare-i teftişiyesi kitâbeti. The lists have no entry for 1902 to 1909. Alongside, the lists for 1898/99 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Ankara orman ser müfettişliği vekaleti (ilâveten). The last post was in Ankara again in 1910/11. In place of a title the lists give Azil (dismissal) for 1901/02 and Mazuliyet for 1909 to 1911.
The salary went from 500 kuruş a month in 1885/86 to 600 in 1888/89, the peak, in Konya, when two in three paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1910/11.
