Mehmed Fazıl Efendi

The life of Mehmed Fazıl Efendi began in Dagistan in 1844/45 (AH 1260). Mehmed Fazıl began work in Istanbul in 1868/69, at about 24. The farthest post, Preveza, lay about 2,300 km from Dagistan, and fewer than 3 per cent of the 5,339 officials with a known birthplace and place of service served as far from the birthplace. Five provinces on two continents in all, a number reached by fewer than 6 per cent of the 6,605 officials with a place of service.

Pay rose from 500 kuruş a month in 1869/70 to a peak of 1,800 in 1908/09, as Sancak Muhasebecisi in Çatalca, when 88 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1908/09.
