Life and register readings
The life of Süleyman Fahri Efendi began in Pristina (Priştine) in 1863/64 (AH 1280); the father's occupation was "Emekli Asâkir-i Şâhâne yüzbaşısı". At about 12, in 1875/76, Süleyman Fahri began work in Pristina. Few began so young; fewer than 3 per cent of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known started at 12 or younger. The annual lists begin in 1875/76, with Süleyman Fahri as Emlak Tahriri Kalemi stajyeri in Pristina, the birthplace. For 1876 to 1879 the lists have no entry. The annual lists then follow Süleyman Fahri to a post with no place named from 1879 to 1892. Alongside, the lists for 1891 to 1897 give a second post, in Novi Pazar as Bidayet Mahkemesi müstantiki, with a rise to Bidayet Mahkemesi müstantiki. The lists give Infisal for 1891/92 instead of a title.
Pay rose from 300 kuruş a month in 1879/80 to a peak of 600 in 1891/92, in Novi Pazar, when 65 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1896/97.
