Annual salary study and register readings

This study view uses the annual salary reference records. The main biography brings together the wider career and its sources.

Life and register readings

Osman Efendi was born in Mecca (Mekke) in 1848/49 (AH 1265). Work began in 1890/91, at about 42, on a first salary of 500 kuruş. Of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known, fewer than 3 per cent started at 42 or older. The annual lists begin in 1890/91, with Osman as Sevadiye Nahiyesi müdürü and no place named.

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 500 kuruş a month in 1890/91, when 56 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1891/92.

Places in order of time

Each number is a stop: the birthplace, the place of first work, then every place of the annual entries in turn. The year beside an arrow is the first entry at the new place.
