Life and register readings
Hüseyin Hüsnü Efendi was born in Gümüşhane, Cami-i Kebir Mahallesi in 1836/37 (AH 1252). Work began in Gümüşhane in 1855/56, at about 19. The first annual entry, for 1855/56, places Hüseyin Hüsnü in Gümüşhane as Tahrirat Kalemi mülazımı, where the entries run to 1857/58. Alongside, the lists for 1857/58 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Görevin sona ermesi. Next came Vidin and Boyabat from 1862 to 1868. At the same time, from 1867/68, the lists also place Hüseyin Hüsnü in a post with no place named as Girzesaray naibi. Hüseyin Hüsnü then moved to Bartın, Silivri, Safranbolu, Akçaabat (Polathane) and Mazgirt, five places in 14 years. Alongside, the lists for 1882 to 1886 give a second post, in Ovacık as Ovacık aşar ihalesini gerçekleştirme. Alongside, the lists for 1885/86 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Torul naibi. Few officials served in as many places; fewer than 3 per cent of the 6,605 officials with a place of service did.
Pay rose from 500 kuruş a month in 1857/58 to a peak of 1,250 in 1884/85, in Ovacık, when 86 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, ten years of salary come to 117,000 kuruş, 2.3 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1885/86.
