Life and register readings
Mehmed Reşid Efendi was born in Pristina (Priştine) in 1848/49 (AH 1265). Work began in Sofia (Sofya) in 1877/78, at about 28, on a first salary of 600 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1877/78, with Mehmed Reşid as Telgraf ve Posta Merkezi muhabere memuru in Sofia. For 1878 to 1880 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1878 give a second post, in Skopje as Telgraf ve Posta Merkezi muhabere memuru. Next came Ioannina in 1880/81. At the same time, from 1880 to 1887, the lists also place Mehmed Reşid in Ersekë (Kolonya) as Telgraf ve Posta Merkezi muhabere memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1886 to 1910 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Telgraf ve Posta Merkezi muhabere memuru. The lists have no entry for 1892 to 1908. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1878 and 1880/81.
Pay rose from 600 kuruş a month in 1877/78 to a peak of 750 in 1880/81, in Ioannina, when three in four paid officials earned less. That salary was paid for a single year, and the next list gives 600 kuruş. Over 16 years pay ended where it began, at 600 kuruş. The last annual entry is for 1909/10.
