Life and register readings
Mehmed Rıza Efendi was born in Bursa in 1860/61 (AH 1277), into the İslam community. At about 36, in 1896/97, Mehmed Rıza began work in Istanbul, on a first salary of 300 kuruş. Of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known, fewer than 5 per cent started at 36 or older. The annual lists begin in 1896/97, with Mehmed Rıza as Dersaâdet polis neferliği in Istanbul. The lists have no entry for 1897 to 1900. The last entries, from 1900 to 1908, name Mehmed Rıza as zikr olunan mukayyidlik, with no place. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1900/01 and 1906/07.
