Salih Efendi‟nin oğludur. Antakya‟da ġerbetçizade olarak tanınırlar.1844/45 (H:1260)
yılında Antakya‟da doğmuĢtur. Sıbyan mektebinden mezun olduktan sonra özel hocadan sarf
ü nahv dersi görmüĢtür. Arapça konuĢup Türkçe yazabilmekteydi.
Nahiyesi Müdür lüğünde iĢe baĢlamıĢtır. Burada görevini ifa ederken 90 hane Müslüman
ahalisinin Protestanlığa geçtiklerini anlatan mektubu kaybetmesi üzerine azil edilmesi
yönünde Diyarbakır vilayetine tahrirat iĢar olunmuĢtur. Bunun üzerine yapılan tahkikat
sonrasında 3 Kasım 1894 (H.4 Cemaziyelevvel 1312) tarihinde azil edilmiĢtir.
Mehmed Murad Efendi, iĢten el çektirilmesi yönünde mahkeme yapılmadan azil
edildiğine dair tekrardan yargılanması için “Şurayı Devlet Dâhiliye
Dairesine179”baĢvurmuĢtur. Bölge mahkemesi de dur umu Diyarbakır vilayetine bildirmiĢtir.
Tekrardan yapılan incelemeler neticesinde, hakkında sadece bu olayla sınırlı kalmamıĢ ve
erzakların ihracı sırasında usulsüzlük yaptığını ortaya çıkmıĢtır. ġurayı Devlet Dâhiliye
Dairesi kendisine verilen cezayı 30 M ayıs 1896 (R.18 Mayıs 1312) tarihinde onamıĢtır.
Dâhiliye MüsteĢarlığı tarafından hazırladığı, 7 Haziran 1896 (R.27 Mayıs 1312) tarihli ve 334
numaralı tezkirede, bu olaydan bahsetmiĢ ve bu tezkireyi Sicill -i Ahval Daire -i Umumiye
“Belviran Nahiyesi Müdürlüğü 180”ne tayin olunmuĢtur. 9 Mayıs 1900 (R.26 Nisan 1900)
tarihli tezkirede Mehmed Murad Efendi‟nin hastalığından dolayı artık iĢleri yapamaz hale
geldiği belirtilmiĢ ve 3 Mart 1901 (H.1 Zilkade 1317) tarihinde azil edilmiĢtir. Mehmed
