Life and register readings
The life of Mehmed Murad Efendi began in Antakya in 1844/45 (AH 1260). At about 29, in 1873/74, Mehmed Murad began work, on a first salary of 500 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1873/74, with Mehmed Murad as Nahiye Muduru and no place named. The lists have no entry for 1878 to 1882. The annual lists then follow Mehmed Murad to Nea Zichni (Zihne) from 1882 to 1886. For 1886 to 1893 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1885 to 1900 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Muaşşir (emaneten). The lists have no entry for 1895 to 1897. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1874/75; Azil (dismissal) for 1894/95 and 1899/1900.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 500 kuruş a month in 1873/74, as Nahiye Muduru, when 55 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over ten years pay ended below where it began, 320 kuruş against 500. The last annual entry is for 1899/1900.
