Life and register readings
Born in Taşköprü in 1851/52 (AH 1268), İsmail Hakkı Efendi was the child of a tanner (debbağ). Work began in Taşköprü in 1874/75, at about 22. The first annual entry, for 1874/75, places İsmail Hakkı in Taşköprü, the birthplace, as Vukuat kalemi mülazımı. The annual lists then follow İsmail Hakkı to a post with no place named from 1875 to 1881. Alongside, the lists for 1880 to 1892 give a second post, in Taşköprü as Vukuat kâtibi. The lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1875/76, Azil (dismissal) for 1889/90 and Infisal for 1891/92 instead of a title.
The salary went from 235 kuruş a month in 1875/76 to 500 in 1887/88, the peak, in Taşköprü, when 54 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1891/92.
