Life and register readings
Ohannes was born in Karesi in 1859/60 (AH 1276). The first annual entry, for 1873/74, names Ohannes as Maaş kaydı, with no place. From 1888 to 1909 every annual entry places Ohannes in Aydın. The lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1874/75 and Infisal for 1887/88 instead of a title.
The salary went from 70 kuruş a month in 1873/74 to 1,590 in 1907/08, the peak, in Aydın, when nine in ten paid officials earned less. That salary was paid for a single year, and the next list gives 1,400 kuruş. In all, 37 years of salary come to 335,040 kuruş, 1.8 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years.
