Life and register readings
Osep Efendi was born in Bursa in 1859/60 (AH 1276) into the Hristiyan community; the father was a merchant (tüccar). At about 18, in 1878, Osep began work in Bandırma. The first annual entry, for 1878, places Osep in Bandırma as Bandırma kazası tahrîrat kalemine mülâzemet. The last entries, from 1879 to 1893, name Osep as Bandırma rüsûmuna müdiriyeti harir ve Koza kitâbeti, with no place. For 1884 to 1890 the lists have no entry. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1880/81, Azil (dismissal) for 1883/84 and İstifa (resignation) for 1892/93.
