Life and register readings
Mahmud Namık Efendi was born in Malatya in 1865/66 (AH 1282); the father was a merchant (tüccar). At about 22, in 1887/88, Mahmud Namık began work in Denizli, on a first salary of 150 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1887/88, with Mahmud Namık as Piyade Tahsildarlığı Bölük Emini in Denizli, where the entries run to 1896/97, with a rise to Suvari Tahsildari in 1896/97. The lists have no entry for 1891 to 1896 and 1897 to 1902. Next came Buldan in 1902/03, as Tahsilat Müfettişi. Alongside, the lists for 1902/03 give a second post, in Çal as Tahsilat Müfettişi. The last entry, for 1903/04, names Mahmud Namık as Tahsilat Müfettişi, with no place.
