Life and register readings
Mehmed Nuri Efendi was born in Burdur in 1869/70 (AH 1286). Work began in Burdur in 1884/85, at about 16. The annual lists begin in 1884/85, with Mehmed Nuri as Defter-i Hakani Kalemi stajyeri in Burdur, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1891/92. For 1892 to 1895 the lists have no entry. At the same time, from 1891/92, the lists also place Mehmed Nuri in a post with no place named as Yoklama kâtibi. Mehmed Nuri then moved back to Burdur from 1895 to 1897. Alongside, the lists for 1896/97 give a second post, in Peja as Defter-i Hakani İdaresi başkâtibi. Next came Biga and Gelibolu from 1904 to 1908. The lists have no entry for 1898 to 1904. The last entries, from 1909 to 1911, name Mehmed Nuri as Dördüncü sınıf Defter-i Hakani memuru, with no place.
The salary went from 380 kuruş a month in 1896/97 to 860 in 1907/08, the peak, in Gelibolu, when three in four paid officials earned less. That salary was paid for a single year, and the next list gives 800 kuruş. The final annual entry is for 1910/11.
