Life and register readings
Born in Erzincan in 1856/57 (AH 1273) into the İslam community, Mehmed Lebib Efendi was the child of a merchant (tüccar). At about 16, in 1873/74, Mehmed Lebib began work in Erzincan. The annual lists begin in 1873/74, with Mehmed Lebib as tahrirat kalemi mülazımı in Erzincan, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1891/92. For 1874 to 1885 and 1886 to 1888 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1891/92 give a second post, in a post with no place named as açığa çıkarıldı (İnfisal).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 500 kuruş a month in 1885/86, in Erzincan, when 58 per cent of paid officials earned less. The peak lasted a single year; the next list gives 350 kuruş. The final annual entry is for 1891/92.
