Life and register readings
Yorgaki Bezmi Efendi was born in Maden in 1869/70 (AH 1286), into the Hristiyan community. Work began in 1882/83, at about 14. The annual lists begin in 1882/83, with Yorgaki Bezmi as mal kalemi mülazımı and no place named, with a rise to Mal Muduru Muavini in 1896/97. For 1887 to 1894 the lists have no entry. At the same time, from 1897/98, the lists also place Yorgaki Bezmi in Haymana as Mal Muduru.
Pay rose from 150 kuruş a month in 1884/85 to a peak of 500 in 1896/97, as Mal Muduru Muavini, when 52 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over seven years the salaries add up to 24,600 kuruş, 71 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned. The last annual entry is for 1897/98.
