Life and register readings
Mustafa Kamil Efendi was born in Bilecik in 1873/74 (AH 1290); the father's occupation was "Bilecik kazası nüfus kayıt memuru". The personnel record dates the first work in Ertugrul to 1886/87, after the first annual entry. The annual lists begin in 1885/86, with Mustafa Kamil as Rüştiye şehadetnamesi in Bilecik, the birthplace. Mustafa Kamil then moved to Ertugrul from 1886 to 1900, then Söğüt in 1904/05. For 1887 to 1891, 1895 to 1899 and 1900 to 1904 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1904/05 give a second post, in Beyşehir as Ziraat Bankası muhasebe kâtibi.
The salary went from 60 kuruş a month in 1891/92 to 350 in 1899/1900, the peak, in Ertugrul, when 39 per cent of paid officials earned less.
