Mişel Efendi was born in Aleppo (Halep) in 1874/75 (AH 1291). Work began in Mersin in 1895/96, at about 21, on a first salary of 400 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1895/96, places Mişel in Mersin as Rüsumat Müdürlüğü mübassırlığı. For 1896 to 1899 the lists have no entry. At the same time, from 1895/96, the lists also place Mişel in İskenderun as Rüsumat Müdürlüğünde görev. The last post was in İskenderun again in 1903/04. The lists have no entry for 1900 to 1903.
