Life and register readings
Kirkor Yaldızyan was born in Istanbul in 1845/46 (AH 1262) into the Katolik community. Work began in Istanbul in 1872/73, at about 26. The annual lists begin in 1872/73, with Kirkor Yaldızyan as Telgrafhane mülazımı and no place named. For 1875 to 1878 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1873/74 give a second post, in Samsun as Telgraf merkezi ecnebi muhabere memuru. Kirkor Yaldızyan then moved to Princes' Islands (Adalar) from 1878 to 1880. The lists have no entry for 1880 to 1883. The last entries, from 1883 to 1887, name Kirkor Yaldızyan as Sırbistan komiserliği kâtibi, with no place. The lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1873/74; Infisal for 1879/80 and 1885/86 instead of a title.
Pay rose from 1,200 kuruş a month in 1873/74 to a peak of 1,300 in 1883/84, when 88 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over eight years the salaries add up to 93,600 kuruş, 2.4 times what an official on the median salary earned. The final annual entry is for 1886/87.
