Life and register readings
Mehmed Rü şdü Efendi was born in Üve karyesi in 1850/51 (AH 1267); the father's occupation was "çiftçi (zürra)". At about 38, in 1888/89, Mehmed Rü şdü began work in Lapseki, on a first salary of 1,000 kuruş. Few began so late; fewer than 4 per cent of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known started at 38 or older. The first annual entry, for 1888/89, places Mehmed Rü şdü in Lapseki as naib, where the entries run to 1890/91. The last posts were in Vize from 1891 to 1894.
