Life and register readings
Yorgaki İstilyadi Efendi was born in Bursa in 1855/56 (AH 1272) into the Hristiyan community; the father's occupation was "Değirmenci". Work began in 1873/74, at about 17. The first annual entry, for 1873/74, names Yorgaki İstilyadi as mektubi kalemi; mülazemetle, with no place, with a rise to Bidayet Mahkemesi Riyaseti in 1892/93. The lists have no entry for 1874 to 1884 and 1885 to 1891. In place of a title the lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1892/93 and Azil (dismissal) for 1895/96.
The salary went from 360 kuruş a month in 1891/92 to 1,200 in 1892/93, the peak, as Bidayet Mahkemesi Riyaseti, when 85 per cent of paid officials earned less.
