Life and register readings
The life of Mehmed Nuri Efendi began in Ohrid (Ohri). The annual lists begin in 1899/1900 (AH 1317), with Mehmed Nuri as Merkez Ağnam katibi in Ioannina (Yanya). Mehmed Nuri then moved to Konitsa (Koniçe), Gaziantep (Antep) and Tirana (Tiran) from 1900 to 1905. Alongside, the lists for 1904 to 1908 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Mal Muduru. Alongside, the lists for 1907 to 1909 give a second post, in Istanbul as Birinci Daire-i Belediye Tenevvürin katibi.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 1,000 kuruş a month in 1899/1900, in Ioannina, when 83 per cent of paid officials earned less. That salary was paid for a single year, and the next list gives 360 kuruş. In all, five years of salary come to 40,800 kuruş, 1.7 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1908/09.
