Life and register readings
Born in Bursa in 1864/65 (AH 1281), Mehmed Hasib Efendi came from the İslam community; the father's occupation was "Bursa Evkaf da'iresi başkatibi". At about 11, in 1875/76, Mehmed Hasib began work. Fewer than 2 per cent of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known began work at 11 or younger. The first annual entry, for 1875/76, names Mehmed Hasib in the evkaf meclis kalemi, with no place. For 1876 to 1880 the lists have no entry. Mehmed Hasib then moved to Istanbul from 1890 to 1902. The lists have no entry for 1902 to 1909. The last entry, for 1909/10, names Mehmed Hasib as ilamat-ı şer'iyye icrâ da'iresi baş muavinliği, with no place. The lists give Infisal for 1889/90 instead of a title.
The salary went from 300 kuruş a month in 1882/83 to 1,500 in 1909/10, the peak, when four in five paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1909/10.
