Hüseyin Hüsnü Efendi

Hüseyin Hüsnü Efendi was born in Sivas in 1853/54 (AH 1270); the father's occupation was "Dersaadet teftiş memuru". Work began in Sivas in 1872/73, at about 18, on a first salary of 300 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1872/73, places Hüseyin Hüsnü in Sivas, the birthplace, as Tahrirat-ı vergi kalemi stajyeri, where the entries run to 1891/92. For 1873 to 1885 and 1886 to 1891 the lists have no entry. Next came Amasya in 1893/94, then a return to Sivas from 1894 to 1909, with a rise to chief police commissioner (Başkomiser) in 1907/08. The lists have no entry for 1895 to 1907. The last posts were in Zara in 1909/10 and Canik in 1910/11.

The salary went from 300 kuruş a month in 1885/86 to 1,561 in 1909/10, the peak, in Zara, when 84 per cent of paid officials earned less. The peak lasted a single year; the next list gives 750 kuruş. In all, seven years of salary come to 72,132 kuruş, 1.9 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1910/11.
