Life and register readings

Şakiri Efendi was born in Haleb in 1852/53 (AH 1269) into the Hristiyan community. At about 14, in 1866/67, Şakiri began work. The annual lists begin in 1866/67, with Şakiri as Telgrafhane mülazımı and no place named. Alongside, the lists for 1878 to 1880 give a second post, in İskenderun as Merkez muhabere memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1879 to 1885 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Rüsumat Nezareti memuru. In place of a title the lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1868/69 and 1881/82; Azil (dismissal) for 1879/80.

The salary went from 375 kuruş a month in 1868/69 to 500 in 1876/77, the peak, when 55 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1884/85.
