Life and register readings
Born in Aleppo (Halep) in 1860/61 (AH 1277), Selim Efendi came from the Katolik community; the father was a merchant (tüccar). At about 19, in 1879/80, Selim began work in Aleppo, on a first salary of 300 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1879/80, with Selim as İkinci Daire-i Belediye sandık memuru in Aleppo, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1888/89. For 1880 to 1883 and 1889 to 1899 the lists have no entry. The annual lists then follow Selim to Mosul in 1899/1900 and Baghdad in 1903/04. The lists have no entry for 1900 to 1903 and 1904 to 1906. The last posts were in Ioannina (Yanya) from 1906 to 1909.
