Yorgaki Voloçuslus Efendi

Yorgaki Voloçuslus Efendi was born in Didymoteicho (Dimetoka) in 1845/46 (AH 1262) into the Rum Ortodoks community; the father was a money-changer (sarraf). Work began in 1878/79, at about 33, on a first salary of 600 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1878/79, names Yorgaki Voloçuslus as Zabtiye süvari yüzbaşısı, with no place. Next came Keşan in 1879/80. Alongside, the lists for 1879 to 1884 give a second post, in Malkara as Polis mülazım-ı evveli. At the same time, from 1883 to 1885, the lists also place Yorgaki Voloçuslus in Çorlu as Polis mülazım-ı evveli. Alongside, the lists for 1884 to 1889 give a second post, in Tekirdağ as Polis mülazım-ı evveli. The lists have no entry for 1889 to 1896. Alongside, the lists for 1888 to 1897 give a second post, in Edirne as Üçüncü sınıf polis komiseri.

Pay rose from 600 kuruş a month in 1878/79 to a peak of 700 in 1879/80, in Keşan, when 71 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over 11 years pay ended below where it began, 400 kuruş against 600. The last annual entry is for 1896/97.
