Life and register readings
TEVFİK EFENDİ was born in Kirkuk (Kerkük) in 1863/64 (AH 1280); the father's occupation was "Zor hapishane sergardiyanı". Work began in 1884/85, at about 21. The annual lists begin in 1884/85, with TEVFİK as evrak kalemi mülazımı in Zor, where the entries run to 1887/88. Alongside, the lists for 1887 to 1893 give a second post, in a post with no place named as belediye kâtibi. At the same time, from 1892 to 1894, the lists also place TEVFİK in Zor as meclis-i idare ikinci kâtibi.
The salary went from 100 kuruş a month in 1887/88 to 300 in 1892/93, the peak, when 27 per cent of paid officials earned less. The peak lasted a single year; the next list gives 200 kuruş. In all, seven years of salary come to 12,000 kuruş, 35 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1893/94.
