Life and register readings
Born in Sivas in 1872/73 (AH 1289), Mehmet Ali Efendi was the child of a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Work began in 1889/90, at about 17. The annual lists begin in 1889/90, with Mehmet Ali as telgraf stajyeri and no place named. At the same time, from 1892/93, the lists also place Mehmet Ali in Akşehir as telgraf ve posta muhabere memuru. The last posts were in Adana from 1893 to 1895.
Pay rose from 300 kuruş a month in 1892/93 to a peak of 400 in 1893/94, in Adana, when 44 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1894/95.
