Life and register readings
The life of Mehmed Efendi began in Nağza karyesi in 1873/74 (AH 1290); the father's occupation was "zürra". At about 17, in 1890/91, Mehmed began work in Sarayi humayun, on a first salary of 40 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1890/91, to 1903/04, every annual entry places Mehmed in the same post, haber baş anbar ve odacısı, in Sarayi humayun.
