Life and register readings
Mehmed Rifat Efendi was born in Burdur in 1875/76 (AH 1292); the father was a merchant (tüccar). Work began in Burdur in 1888/89, at about 14. Every annual entry from 1888/89 to 1893/94 places Mehmed Rifat in the same post, Tahrirat Kalemi stajyeri, in Burdur, the birthplace. The lists give Vefat (death) for 1900/01 instead of a title.
