Annual salary study and register readings

This study view uses the annual salary reference records. The main biography brings together the wider career and its sources.

Life and register readings

Born in Istanbul in 1842/43 (AH 1258), Mustafa Neşet Efendi came from the İslam community; the father's occupation was "Maliye Hazinesi Esham Muhasebe Kalemi halifesi". Mustafa Neşet began work in Istanbul in 1862/63, at about 20, on a first salary of 250 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1862/63, places Mustafa Neşet in Istanbul, the birthplace, as Fatih Rüştiyesi Farsça muallimi, where the entries run to 1871/72. For 1863 to 1870 and 1872 to 1887 the lists have no entry. Mustafa Neşet then moved to Tripoli in 1887/88. The last posts were in Istanbul again from 1888 to 1893. The lists give Vefat (death) for 1893/94 instead of a title.

The one salary in the lists is 250 kuruş a month, for 1862/63, when 23 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1893/94.

Places in order of time

Each number is a stop: the birthplace, the place of first work, then every place of the annual entries in turn. The year beside an arrow is the first entry at the new place.
