Life and register readings
Mehmed Naci Efendi was born in Malatya in 1855/56 (AH 1272) into the İslam community; the father was a merchant (tüccar). At about 33, in 1888/89, Mehmed Naci began work. The annual lists begin in 1888/89, with Mehmed Naci as Evrak Mukayyidi and no place named. For 1889 to 1891 the lists have no entry.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1891/92, as Mal Muduru Muavini, when 28 per cent of paid officials earned less.
