Life and register readings

Ömer Cemil Efendi was born in Bursa in 1850/51 (AH 1267) into the İslam community. Work began in 1870/71, at about 19. The first annual entry, for 1870/71, names Ömer Cemil as hidemat-ı askeriye, with no place. The lists have no entry for 1880 to 1888 and 1893 to 1898. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1879/80 and Azil (dismissal) for 1892/93.

Pay rose from 500 kuruş a month in 1888/89 to a peak of 540 in 1898/99, when 65 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1898/99.
