Life and register readings
Pirinçizade Arif Efendi was born in Diyarbakır in 1852/53 (AH 1269); the father's occupation was "Pirinç tüccarı". Work began in Diyarbakır in 1866/67, at about 14. The first annual entry, for 1866/67, places Pirinçizade Arif in Diyarbakır, the birthplace, as Tahrirat Kalemi mülazımı, where the entries run to 1890/91. For 1883 to 1885 the lists have no entry. At the same time, from 1889/90, the lists also place Pirinçizade Arif in Mardin as Mardin heyet-i adliyesi şikayet tahkiki memuru. The last posts were in Diyarbakır again from 1892 to 1894.
Pay rose from 150 kuruş a month in 1866/67 to a peak of 750 in 1879/80, in Diyarbakır, when 73 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1893/94.
