Mehmed Emin Efendi

The life of Mehmed Emin Efendi began in Antalya in 1844/45 (AH 1260); the father's occupation was "Topçu yüzbaşısı". Work began in 1860/61, at about 16. The annual lists begin in 1860/61, with Mehmed Emin as Zabtiye Nezareti Mektubi Kalemi mülazımı and no place named. For 1861 to 1865 and 1866 to 1868 the lists have no entry. Next came Silivri from 1868 to 1873. At the same time, from 1872/73, the lists also place Mehmed Emin in a post with no place named as Mal Muduru, with a rise to Mal Muduru. Alongside, the lists for 1872 to 1883 give a second post, in Çatalca as Tahrirat Müdürlüğü muavini, with a rise to Tahrirat Müdürlüğü muavini. Alongside, the lists for 1882 to 1887 give a second post, in Büyükçekmece as Tahrirat kâtibi. The lists have no entry for 1887 to 1894. In place of a title the lists give Vefat (death) for 1894/95.

The salary went from 400 kuruş a month in 1868/69 to 650 in 1877/78, the peak, in Çatalca, when 68 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over 20 years pay ended below where it began, 240 kuruş against 400. In all, 20 years of salary come to 107,520 kuruş, about what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1894/95.
