Annual salary study and register readings

This study view uses the annual salary reference records. The main biography brings together the wider career and its sources.

Life and register readings

Mahmud Nazım Efendi was born in Pristina (Priştine) in 1877/78 (AH 1294); the father's occupation was "Ziraatçı". Work began in Pristina in 1902/03, at about 25. The first annual entry, for 1902/03, places Mahmud Nazım in Pristina, the birthplace, as Telgrafhane stajyeri. The annual lists then follow Mahmud Nazım to Mitrovica (Mitroviça) from 1903 to 1906. Alongside, the lists for 1905/06 give a second post, in Pristina as Telgraf ve Posta Merkezi muhabere memuru.

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 250 kuruş a month in 1903/04, in Mitrovica, when 22 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over three years the salaries add up to 9,000 kuruş, 60 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned. The last annual entry is for 1905/06.

Places in order of time

Each number is a stop: the birthplace, the place of first work, then every place of the annual entries in turn. The year beside an arrow is the first entry at the new place.
