ÖMER EFENDİ

Annual salary study and register readings

This study view uses the annual salary reference records. The main biography brings together the wider career and its sources.

Life and register readings

Born in Erbil in 1874/75 (AH 1291), ÖMER EFENDİ was the child of a merchant (tüccar). The personnel record dates the first work to 1897/98, after the first annual entry, on a first salary of 150 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1896/97, names ÖMER as askerlik (kur'a), with no place. Alongside, the lists for 1899 to 1902 give a second post, in Suq al-Shuyukh as Düyun-ı Umumiye humus aidatı memur vekili.

The salary went from 150 kuruş a month in 1897/98 to 300 in 1901/02, the peak, in Suq al-Shuyukh, when 29 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over five years the salaries add up to 10,800 kuruş, 45 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned. The last annual entry is for 1901/02.

Places in order of time

Each number is a stop: the birthplace, the place of first work, then every place of the annual entries in turn. The year beside an arrow is the first entry at the new place.
