Life and register readings
Mehmet Sait Efendi was born in Sivas in 1844/45 (AH 1260); the father was a tradesman (esnaf). At about 16, in 1859/60, Mehmet Sait began work. The first annual entry, for 1859/60, names Mehmet Sait as stajyer, with no place. The lists have no entry for 1860 to 1865 and 1866 to 1869. Next came Osmancik and Darende from 1869 to 1872. Alongside, the lists for 1871/72 give a second post, in Ladik as vergi kâtibi. Mehmet Sait then moved to Merzifon from 1873 to 1878. Alongside, the lists for 1878 give a second post, in Yıldızeli as vergi kâtibi.
