Life and register readings
Ömer Adil Efendi was born in Şebinkarahisar (Karahisar-ı Şarki); the father's occupation was "Karahisar-ı Şarki Nafia Komisyonu kâtibi". Work began in Şebinkarahisar in 1891/92 (AH 1309). The first annual entry, for 1891/92, names Ömer Adil as a candidate official (Mülazım), with no place. At the same time, from 1896 to 1900, the lists also place Ömer Adil in Şebinkarahisar as Tahrirat Kalemi mübeyyizi. Alongside, the lists for 1898/99 give a second post, in Koyulhisar as Tahrirat kâtibi. The annual lists then follow Ömer Adil to Suşehri from 1900 to 1902. Alongside, the lists for 1901 to 1903 give a second post, in Koyulhisar as Bidayet Mahkemesi ikinci kâtibi. The last posts were in Şebinkarahisar again from 1903 to 1905.
Pay rose from 20 kuruş a month in 1896/97 to a peak of 300 in 1900/01, in Suşehri, when 29 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over nine years the salaries add up to 20,400 kuruş, 46 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned. The final annual entry is for 1904/05.
