Life and register readings
The life of Lütfü Efendi began in Kemah in 1863/64 (AH 1280). The first annual entry, for 1894/95, places Lütfü in Kemah, the birthplace, as Mahkeme bidayet kalemi kâtibi, where the entries run to 1898/99. For 1899 to 1903 the lists have no entry. In 1903/04 the lists place Lütfü in Erzurum. The lists give Infisal for 1898/99 instead of a title.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 250 kuruş a month in 1894/95, in Kemah, when 21 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, five years of salary come to 15,000 kuruş, 60 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1903/04.
