Life and register readings
Mehmed Efendi was born in Malatya in 1841/42 (AH 1257). The schooling was at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi). At about 21, in 1862/63, Mehmed began work in Malatya. The first annual entry, for 1862/63, names Mehmed as geçici memuriyetler, with no place. For 1863 to 1870 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1862/63 give a second post, in Malatya as Nogay Muhacirleri Ebniye İnşaat Memuru. Next came Kâhta in 1870/71, then a return to Malatya from 1876 to 1880. The lists have no entry for 1873 to 1876, 1877 to 1879 and 1880 to 1892. The last entry, for 1892/93, names Mehmed as Kürne Nahiyesi Müdürü, with no place.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1862/63, in Malatya, when 34 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, three years of salary come to 9,552 kuruş, 66 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1892/93.
