Life and register readings
Born in Antalya in 1876/77 (AH 1293), Mehmed Sabri Efendi was the child of a clerk (katip). At about 13, in 1888/89, Mehmed Sabri began work in Antalya. Few began so young; fewer than 5 per cent of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known started at 13 or younger.
