Life and register readings
Mehmet Akif Efendi was born in Bilecik in 1876/77 (AH 1293); the father's occupation was "Ertuğrul Sancağı müftüsü". At about 16, in 1892/93, Mehmet Akif began work in Ertugrul, on a first salary of 50 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1892/93, places Mehmet Akif in Ertugrul as Meclis-i İdare başkâtibi, where the entries run to 1898/99. Alongside, the lists for 1898/99 give a second post, in a post with no place named as İstasyon şube kâtibi.
