Life and register readings

Osman Nuri Bey was born in Sivas in 1853/54 (AH 1270) into the İslam community; the father's occupation was "Vilayet muhasebe kalemi cariye kâtibi". At about 18, in 1872/73, Osman Nuri began work. The annual lists begin in 1872/73, with Osman Nuri as Muhasebe kalemi stajyeri in Sivas, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1879/80. The lists have no entry for 1873 to 1879. Next came Yıldızeli (Yenihan), Sivas and Amasya from 1880 to 1885, with a rise to Mal Muduru in 1880/81 and to Muhasebe heyet-i hesabiye başkâtibi in 1883/84. For 1881 to 1883 the lists have no entry. The last posts were in Yıldızeli again from 1885 to 1888.

Pay rose from 40 kuruş a month in 1879/80 to a peak of 600 in 1883/84, in Sivas, when 68 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1887/88.
