Life and register readings
Tazvur Efendi was born in Biga in 1854/55 (AH 1271); the father was a merchant (tüccar). The first salary was 200 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1870/71, with Tazvur as Vilayet muhasebe kalemi memuru and no place named. Alongside, the lists for 1889/90 give a second post, in Niğde as Sancak Muhasebecisi, with a rise to Sancak Muhasebecisi. In place of a title the lists give Vefat (death) for 1890/91.
Pay rose from 250 kuruş a month in 1870/71 to a peak of 8,250 in 1877/78, when 97 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, 21 years of salary come to 389,280 kuruş, 3.7 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years, a level reached by fewer than 8 per cent of the 4,381 officials paid for five years or more. The last annual entry is for 1890/91.
