Life and register readings
Born in Sivas in 1861/62 (AH 1278), Mehmet Tevfik Efendi was the child of a merchant (tüccar). Mehmet Tevfik began work in 1876/77, at about 15. The first annual entry, for 1876/77, places Mehmet Tevfik in Sivas, the birthplace, as Muhasebe kalemi stajyeri, where the entries run to 1878/79. For 1877 to 1878 and 1879 to 1885 the lists have no entry. Mehmet Tevfik then moved to a post with no place named from 1885 to 1892. The last posts were in Sivas again from 1892 to 1897.
