Life and register readings
Born in Huri, Çemişgezek kazası in 1848/49 (AH 1265), Mehmed Efendi came from the İslam community; the father's occupation was "Tahrir ve Vergi İdare-i Umumiyesi odacısı". Mehmed studied at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
At about 25, in 1874/75, Mehmed began work in Istanbul. The annual lists begin in 1874/75, with Mehmed as Tahrir İdaresi mülazımı in Istanbul. Mehmed then moved to a post with no place named from 1876 to 1885. Alongside, the lists for 1878 to 1879 give a second post, in Istanbul as Tahrir ve Vergi İdare-i Umumiyesi deftercisi. The annual lists then follow Mehmed to Kemaliye (Eğin) and Ayvalık from 1884 to 1893. Alongside, the lists for 1892/93 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Nakil. Alongside, the lists for 1892/93 give a second post, in Malatya as Vergi kâtibi. The lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1878 and 1887/88 instead of a title.
Pay rose from 190 kuruş a month in 1876/77 to a peak of 500 in 1889/90, in Ayvalık, when 56 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1892/93.
